Contestant Entering & Qualifying Guidelines

• Entry deadline is November 15, 2018 by 5 pm.
• All ages and skill levels are encouraged to enter the contest.
• Employees and family members of Gateau are excluded.
  • REGISTER BY PURCHASING TICKETS
• One entry per person/team. Please provide a printed description of your gingerbread piece to include the inspiration, which will be displayed with your entry.
• Cash, prizes and ribbons will be awarded to first, second and third place winning entries. $500 for first place winners in the adult and team categories and $200 for first place in the teen category.

Construction:

• Each structure must be made of Gingerbread.
• Each structure must be made on sturdy base no larger than 24” wide x 24” deep x 36” tall & 50 lbs.
• All structures must be made of edible ingredients (gum paste/fondant/modeling chocolate/royal icing/etc.) except for base and lights if using (battery operated)
• Imagination is encouraged! Gingerbread structures are not limited to houses as long as rules are followed.

Drop off and Removal:

• Completed gingerbread entries must be delivered and set up at the First Baptist Church, 39 Alexandria Pike, Warrenton, VA 20186, in Old Town Warrenton on Friday, November 16, 2018 between 2pm – 6pm.
• Public viewing will begin on Saturday, November 17, 2018 from 9am – 4 pm, and Sunday November 18, 2018 between 10 am -3 pm.
• The first, second and third place winning entries in each category will be displayed in various storefronts on Main Street in Old Town from Monday, November 19, 2018 until the end of December 2018, Gateau to arrange for the winnings entries to be transported to each participating store in Old Town Warrenton. Gateau will identify which stores will display which entries on Sunday November 18, 2018, by email and social media posts. If you wish to pick up your winning entry at the end of December, please make arrangements with the store directly.
• All non-winning entries are to be picked up between 3 – 4 pm Sunday November 18, 2018. Some non-winning entries may also be displayed in storefronts in Old Town Warrenton, these entries will be identified and tagged on Sunday November 18, and the entrant(s) notified. Any entries that will not be displayed in Old Town Warrenton during the month of December must be removed from First Baptist Church between 3 - 4 pm Sunday November 18, 2018 or they become property of Gateau.

Judging:

• Date and Time: Saturday November 17, 2018 7 am - 9 am
• Entries will be judged on 5 criteria, 20 points per criteria, for a total possible 100 points:
  • Overall appearance
  • Originality
  • Creativity
  • Difficulty
  • Precision
• Handmade decorations will carry more weight when judging than fabricated or molded items.
• First place cash and prizes will be awarded to entries scoring a minimum 85 points.
• People’s Choice – attendees can vote on their favorite entries on Saturday and Sunday November 17 and 18, 2018. Online voting for the People's Choice Award will also be available throughout December. Winner will be announced December 23, 2018.
