Are you a Humanitarian? Emergency situations can come anywhere, at any time, on a large or small scale. This course provides basic instruction on how to de-escalate the situation, protect yourself and evacuate the vulnerable. It also covers how to properly communicate and engage with military, law enforcement and other individuals who may be assuming command of the situation.

1-hour class, followed by a discussion about the safety of your school, your fears, stressors, risks and assets. The class covers the following topics.

Most individuals entering these fields are focused on providing aid and support to those in times of hardship or distress. Those they are helping are dealing with trauma, mental health issues and outside influences. At any moment they could find themselves in a situation that is out of control or no longer safe.

In emergency situations, humanitarian workers on the ground may become the target of the aggressors and may also be the key personnel to promote effective safety and leadership. In these situations, it is essential to...

  • Understanding the situation and/or threat assessment.
  • Plan for an emergency situation
  • Understand Basic self-defense
  • Understand Basic medical skills
  • Evacuation procedures

This hour-long course will provide the basic instruction on how to de-escalate the situation, focus on humanitarians who do not carry firearms and offers common-sense evacuation procedures, basic medical skills and self-defense techniques. The course also covers how best to engage with military, law enforcement and other individuals who may be assuming command of the situation

Medical Skills: This is another area often overlooked in active shooter training programs. It takes only minutes to learn to apply a CAT Tourniquet and having such tourniquets available can reduce the chances of suffering a fatality by over 50-percent. This is only one example of simple, life-saving medical knowledge.

Self-Defense: A final misconception is that it takes years to master self-defense techniques. By keeping things simple, it is possible to master a few, highly-effective techniques that could save your life in an emergency.

After the course, will be an open discussion about fears, stressors, risks and assets. This data and communication will be used to help build community of aid workers and humanitarians.
